High frequency trading ought to be the least of your worries....

Since the release of Flash Boys, by Michael Lewis, high frequency trading (HFT) has been at the forefront of many retail investor's minds, but is it warranted? As a Canadian investor I would be more wary of financial products that originate from the Big 5 than of some computers front-running my orders. Although, the HFT story is much more sensational. The real threat may be the story of large banks selling products that are designed to skim a portion of one's hard earned savings each year with no value added to the client and zero risk to the bank. I wonder which story generates the most profit each year?
